After running 50+ fashion productions in Puglia, we have something to say about the calendar. The brief always asks the same thing, "when's the best time?", and the honest answer is: it depends on what you're shooting and what tradeoffs you can accept.

Here is what we've learned, month by month.

The strongest months: May, June, September, early October

These are the windows where everything is aligned: light quality peaks, temperatures stay workable (22 to 28°C on the coast, slightly cooler inland), and tourist crowds are manageable. Permit offices are responsive, masseria owners answer the phone, crew availability is solid.

If you have flexibility and the brief allows, aim for these months. They cost slightly more in talent day rates because demand is concentrated, but the per-shoot-day efficiency is the highest of the year.

High summer: July and August

Visually spectacular, the Mediterranean light at peak intensity, the wheat fields harvested, sea blue at maximum saturation. But:

Doable, but expensive in coordination overhead.

The quiet shoulder: November to March

Underrated for editorial and indoor shoots. Light is lower in the sky, longer golden hours, beautiful soft directionality. Tourist density near zero. Permit competition almost nonexistent.

Limitations: outdoor swimwear and high-key beach is hard. Some masserias close in January and February. Cold mornings on the coast, bring jackets between takes.

But for indoor masseria editorials, fashion campaigns with controlled environments, or moody outdoor work, November to March can produce some of the best material of the year with the lowest competition for resources.

April: the gamble

Beautiful when it works. Variable when it doesn't. Spring weather in Puglia is genuinely unpredictable, we have shot perfect 24°C days in April, and we have lost a full shoot day to unexpected rain. If your brief is flexible on date, April is rewarding. If you have a fixed grid date, push to May.
